WHAT IS ECOCHARGE ?
EcoCharge is a network of 102 level 3 fast charging stations installed in the parking lots of 51 IGA grocery stores in Quebec and New Brunswick (49 in Quebec and 2 in New Brunswick). Users can charge their electric vehicles in just 20 minutes while they do their groceries.
This project was launched in 2019 by charitable organization Earth Day Canada in collaboration with the Sobeys supermarket chain, IGA merchants and the Fonds Éco IGA. Since October 2023, Papillons has been the lead manager of this project.
HOW TO PAY AT ECOCHARGE CHARGING STATIONS?
There are two payment options available for our fast-charging network:
- You can pay at the station using a contactless credit card.
- You can manage your charging transaction on your mobile phone using the ChargePoint app.
- You can also use other providers’ apps, but this will incur interoperability fees.
A CHARGING STATION THAT GIVES BACK : DONATIONS ON THE 22ND
With EcoCharge, all charging revenues accumulated on the 22nd of each month are donated to a local charity, carefully chosen by the IGA store where the charging stations are located.
Last year, in 2023, no less than $20,000 was donated to charities as part of this program. So, think about it every 22nd of the month! If you are charging at a EcoCharge station, you are giving back to the community.
THE FIRST NETWORK IN CANADA TO OFFER A NIGHT RATE!
Starting June 17, 2024, a new pricing policy, moving from a per-minute rate to a per-kilowatt-hour rate, will come into effect on all EcoCharge stations located in Quebec and New Brunswick. The new rates are as follows:
For EcoCharge stations in Quebec:
- Day rate: $0.49/kWh* from 6:00 AM to 8:59 PM
- Night rate: $0.39/kWh* from 9:00 PM to 5:59 AM
For EcoCharge stations in New Brunswick:
- Day rate: $0.59/kWh* from 6:00 AM to 8:59 PM
- Night rate: $0.49/kWh* from 9:00 PM to 5:59 AM
Once charging is complete, customers will have a five-minute grace period before a rate of $0.49/minute* applies.
By offering a reduced rate during periods of low electricity demand, EcoCharge aims to make charging more accessible for electric vehicle drivers while easing the pressure on the electric distribution network.
