Driving electric is great. Charging smart is even better. Choosing an electric vehicle (EV) is a responsible decision — but it also means learning a few good habits to make every charging session simple, efficient, and respectful of other users. Whether you’re new to EV driving or already familiar with charging stations, this guide offers practical tips to help you make the most of your experience on the RechargÉco network and support a smoother, friendlier, and more sustainable electric mobility.
Plan your charging stops wisely
Before hitting the road, get into the right habit: locate RechargÉco stations using Google Maps or ChargeHub, but for the best experience with our charging model, we recommend the ChargePoint app. These tools help you find the nearest station and check its power level. Setting a charging stop in your GPS also allows your battery to precondition, improving charging performance.
Also, make sure to plan your stops — especially during winter or on long trips. Whenever possible, avoid letting your battery drop below 10%.
Start your charge with ease
Each station is equipped with a screen and clear instructions to guide you. You can start your session with a ChargePoint card, the ChargePoint app, or simply with your credit card. The Circuit électrique and Flo apps also work, but keep in mind that interoperability fees may apply.
Before plugging in, take a few seconds to inspect the station and the connector — make sure everything is in good condition and easily accessible. Never connect a damaged plug to your vehicle, as it may be difficult to remove after charging. If you notice a damaged cable, a non-functioning screen, or any other issue, please report it directly to ChargePoint at +1 888 758-4389.
Charge only what you need
It’s rarely necessary to charge to 100%. In fact, charging from 20% to 80% is faster, more energy-efficient, and helps preserve your battery’s lifespan. It also allows other drivers to access the station sooner.
Keep in mind: while all our stations are fast, charging power may vary depending on location — from 125 kW to 200 kW on our newest sites. Plan your break accordingly!
Free up the spot and tidy the cable
According to the Highway Safety Code, article 388.1, it is strictly prohibited to remain parked at a charging station once your session is over. Please free up the spot quickly once your vehicle is done charging. After a 5-minute grace period, idle fees apply.
As a simple courtesy: always return the cable to its holder at the end of your session. A cable left on the ground can become damaged, scratch your vehicle, or cause a tripping hazard for other users.
Park smart and be considerate
Some of our stations are installed in a “pull-through” configuration, allowing you to park forward or in reverse. This setup makes charging easier, regardless of where your charging port is located.
That said, even in these spaces, try not to block more than one spot unless necessary. The goal is to keep charging easy and accessible for everyone.
Make charging a sustainable moment
Charging on our network is already a step toward sustainability. Take it further: skip single-use plastics, recycle your waste, and always throw your garbage in the nearest bin — there’s usually one right near the IGA entrance. Take a real, mindful break. Every small gesture counts — on the road and beyond.
