Saint-Laurent, December 7, 2023 — Papillons Infrastructure Nature, the manager of EcoCharge, in collaboration with Earth Day Canada, and IGA extra Famille Duchemin, are commissioning two new charging stations in Ville Saint-Laurent as part of the EcoCharge program, a network of 100 fast charging stations for electric cars to be installed in the parking lots of 50 IGA grocery stores in Quebec and New Brunswick.

The stations were inaugurated by:

  • Ms. Isabelle Lord, Office Director, representing Ms. Marwah Rizqy, Member of Parliament for Saint-Laurent
  • Ms. Vana Nazarian, City Councillor for the Côte-de-Liesse District, representing Mr. Alan DeSousa, Mayor
  • Mr. Richard Duchemin, Co-owner – IGA extra Famille Duchemin
  • Mr. Jean Duchemin, Co-owner – IGA extra Famille Duchemin
  • Mr. Simon Duchemin, Director – IGA extra Famille Duchemin
  • Ms. Myriam Charconnet, Operations Director – Papillons Infrastructure Nature

By providing electric vehicle users the opportunity to charge their cars in just 20 minutes—while they do their grocery shopping—this project aims to generate excitement and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles across the country. The IGA banner is the first partner to host EcoCharge stations. A total of 50 IGA merchants will offer their customers two charging stations in their parking lots.

Additionally, every 22nd of the month, the proceeds will be donated to La Ferme de rue Montréal.

Quotes

“Papillons Infrastructure Nature is very pleased to inaugurate today in Saint-Laurent two new charging stations from the EcoCharge network. With this program, we aim to democratize the transition to electric vehicles by focusing on an improved customer experience. The EcoCharge stations offer multiple benefits for users: the ability to charge their car while grocery shopping, fast charging, compatibility with all models of electric vehicles, and a mobile app that notifies users when the charging is complete.” — Pierre Lussier, President and CEO of Papillons Infrastructure Nature

“We are very pleased to contribute to protecting the environment by offering this new service to our customers and the entire community. With these two EcoCharge stations accessible to everyone at any time in the parking lot of our IGA store, we want to make life easier for electric vehicle drivers, who can do their grocery shopping while recharging their vehicles. Additionally, on the 22nd of each month, all proceeds will be donated to La Ferme de Rue Montréal.” — Daniel, Jean, and Richard Duchemin, Co-owners of IGA extra Famille Duchemin

This program benefits from the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources Canada, which contributes $5 million. It also relies on financial support from each of the 50 participating IGA merchants and the Fonds Eco IGA, which together contribute $1.75 million, while Earth Day Canada invests $8 million in this initiative.

Highlights

  • Installation of 100 Level 3 fast charging stations in the parking lots of 50 IGA supermarkets in Quebec and New Brunswick. Users can charge their vehicles in just 20 minutes, the time it takes to do their grocery shopping.
  • When paired, the two EcoCharge stations can deliver a power output of 125 kW, making them among the fastest on the market.
  • Adapters are available at the customer service counter for Tesla owners wishing to use EcoCharge stations.
  • With these adapters, EcoCharge stations are compatible with all electric vehicles, regardless of make or model.
  • A mobile app allows users to track their charging in real-time and notifies them when their vehicle is fully charged.
